Celebrating Community Leadership: Highlights from the 2026 Partners In Excellence Awards

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, People’s Arc of Suffolk proudly hosted our annual Partners In Excellence Awards breakfast at our Bohemia headquarters. It was a truly inspiring morning dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary organizations and leaders who go above and beyond to build a community of opportunity for the people we support.

Speakers shared throughout the morning about how having people from our programs integrated into local workplaces changes the fundamental dynamic of a business, fostering empathy, teamwork, and long-term staff tenure.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all of our honorees, guests, and supporters who made the 2026 Partners in Excellence Awards an unforgettable morning. Together, we are building a truly inclusive community of opportunity!

This year, we had the distinct privilege of honoring four remarkable partners whose dedication, compassion, and leadership have left an indelible mark on our agency and the wider Suffolk County community:

  • Designs for Vision: For more than three decades, Designs for Vision has been an exemplary employer and a steadfast supporter of our Supported Work Program. Through their incredible care and commitment—particularly to John Connelly, who takes immense pride in his work delivering mail and breaking down equipment—their team has provided much more than a job. They have provided a true sense of purpose, belonging, and friendship, ensuring John has not only succeeded, but thrived.

  • Northwell Huntington Hospital: Through the transformative Project SEARCH internship program, Northwell Huntington Hospital has helped create real-world pathways to employment. Interns like Karen, Ashley, Shante, Jeffrey, and Nico have gained vital vocational skills, formed lasting friendships, and built greater independence, confidence, and self-esteem while contributing directly to patient care in a hospital setting.

  • HIA-LI: As an invaluable partner, HIA-LI has provided vital opportunities to connect organizations, exchange ideas, and foster meaningful collaborations. By hosting events at our Bohemia location, HIA-LI has helped us open our doors to the business community, showcasing our mission and expanding opportunities for inclusion.

  • Sheriff Errol Toulon: Sheriff Toulon has shown remarkable dedication to our community, championing initiatives like the Blue Envelope Program to improve the lives of people with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities. His compassion, advocacy, and willingness to lend a helping hand have helped create a safer, more inclusive Suffolk County.

The event featured wonderful networking, a celebratory breakfast, and powerful reminders of what can be achieved when organizations come together with a shared commitment to inclusion and opportunity.

We are deeply grateful to our honorees, attendees, and staff for making this year’s celebration an overwhelming success. Thank you for believing in our mission and for being vital partners in the change we are building together!
